Connecting with the Community
Googong is more than streets and houses — it’s a growing community where people look out for each other, share what they know, and make things happen.
Whether you’re new to town or a long-time local, there are plenty of ways to get involved, meet others, and contribute to life in Googong.
Local Groups & Clubs
There’s something for everyone in Googong — from sport and fitness to crafts, gardening, and social catch-ups. Many groups meet regularly at the community centre, Rockley Oval, or Club Googong.
Popular examples include:
Googong Hogs Football & Netball Club
Googong Landcare Group – local residents helping care for parks, trees and green corridors.
Wandiyali Restoration Trust – you can help caretake a unique wildlife reserve on our back doorstep.
Googong Craft Circle – informal weekly get-together for sewing, knitting, and handmade projects (usually listed on local noticeboards or Facebook).
If you’re running a local group, you can add your details to Googong Connect for free — it helps neighbours find you and keeps the community network alive.
Volunteering & Community Projects
Giving a little time makes a big difference. Googong residents often pitch in for clean-up days, events, and local fundraising efforts. You’ll also find volunteering opportunities with nearby organisations in Queanbeyan.
Current options include
- Queanbeyan–Palerang Regional Council Volunteering
- Rotary Club of Queanbeyan
- Googong School P&C and community event helpers (check local notices or school updates).
Tip: You don’t need to commit weekly — even helping once or twice a year builds stronger local connections and supports our shared spaces.
Meeting Places & Facilities
The main venues for local gatherings and group activities are
- Googong Community Centre – corner of Gorman Drive and McPhail Way
- Club Googong – sports, social and community events
- Rockley Oval & Sports Precinct – home of local sports, fitness groups, and family recreation.
These spaces can usually be booked for events, classes, or regular meetings through QPRC.
