Googong Connect is built for locals, by locals — and that means we’re always looking for community-minded people to help us keep things fresh, accurate, and relevant.
Our Community Editors play a key role in making sure local news, events, and listings reflect what’s really happening around town.
If you’re passionate about Googong, have a good eye for detail, and enjoy helping people stay informed, you might be exactly who we’re looking for.
What Does a Community Editor Do?
Community Editors help maintain the quality and accuracy of Googong Connect’s listings and community pages.
Depending on your interests, you might:
- Review and approve new business or community group listings
- Keep local event information up to date
- Suggest new resources or pages for residents
- Write or edit short local articles, announcements, or features
- Share insights from local groups, schools, or activities
- Help us spot outdated links or incorrect details
Most of the work can be done online — at your own pace and from wherever you like.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re not after journalists or tech experts (though those are welcome!) — we’re looking for local residents who:
- Care about Googong and want to see the community thrive
- Have basic computer and internet skills (editing text, uploading images, using WordPress forms)
- Can write or proof short pieces of clear, friendly copy
- Are reliable and collaborative — someone who takes pride in their community’s story
If you’ve ever run a social media page, volunteered with a local club, or helped with a school newsletter — you’re already halfway there.
Skills That Help
- Good written English and attention to detail
- A community mindset — able to represent Googong fairly and positively
- Comfortable using online tools (WordPress experience is great, but not essential)
- An understanding of local issues, events, or small business life in Googong
We’ll provide simple guidance on how to post, edit, and communicate with the Googong Connect team.
What You’ll Get Out of It
Being a Community Editor is voluntary, but it’s rewarding. You’ll:
- Help shape the voice and accuracy of Googong Connect
- Gain local visibility and recognition for your contribution
- Build experience in digital publishing, community communication, and local engagement
- Be part of a small, supportive team of locals making Googong better every day
We’ll happily provide a reference or endorsement for volunteers who contribute regularly.
