Welcome to Life in Googong
Googong is one of Australia’s newest and most connected communities — a place that’s been designed with local life at its heart. Whether you’ve just moved into town or you’ve watched it grow from the early days, living here means enjoying a unique mix of country charm and modern convenience.
With more parks than traffic lights, regular community events, and a strong neighbourly spirit, Googong has become a place where people know each other’s names and support local businesses.
Googong Connect helps make that easier — by bringing together information, local services, and events in one place, built by and for the community.
A Quick Guide for New Residents
If you’re new to Googong, here are a few helpful starting points:
Your New Home: Most new residents register their property and utilities through Queanbeyan–Palerang Regional Council (QPRC). You can find information on waste collection, rates, and local services on their website.
Waste Collection: Googong bins are collected weekly — general waste and recycling alternate each fortnight. You can learn more about how to put out your bins correctly here. Check your collection calendar on the QPRC Waste Services page.
Utilities: Water and sewerage are managed by Icon Water, and electricity, gas, and internet can be connected through a range of local providers.
Local Facilities: Googong has its own shopping centre, sports ovals, schools, and community centre — and it’s only minutes from Queanbeyan and 25 minutes to Canberra.
Community Life
Life in Googong is about participation. There’s a strong culture of volunteering, local sport, and shared celebrations — from markets and carols to open-air movie nights.
You’ll find active groups for families, fitness, craft, and sustainability, and there’s always something happening at Rockley Oval, Club Googong, or the Community Centre.
To keep up with what’s on, visit our Events section or subscribe to the weekly Googong Connect newsletter for updates.
Getting Around
Googong is connected to Queanbeyan and Canberra by a growing road network and public transport routes.
Buses: Regular services run between Googong and Queanbeyan Interchange. Timetables are available on the Transport NSW website.
Cycling and Walking: Shared paths run throughout the township, connecting the schools, shops, and recreation areas.
Driving: Most destinations in Queanbeyan are under 10 minutes away, and Canberra’s airport is roughly 25 minutes by car.
